Wildacres is situated on 1,600 acres atop Pompey’s Knob near the Blue Ridge Parkway in the McDowell village of Little Switzerland. In 1946, the retreat was dedicated by I.D. and Madolyn Blumenthal to the betterment of human relations and interfaith dialogue.
In the summer of 2009, a group of Little Switzerland friends and neighbors gathered just after lunch at the Switzerland Cafe. A roundtable of stories and history ensued, and Amy Blumenthal talked about Wildacres, sharing some photos as well. We’ll be bringing you more from the Little Switzerland gathering in a future post. (We send out a special thanks to Ann Kernahan from the Cafe for organizing the get-together.)
